- Virtual Learning All Over The World: Good Practice From PortugalPublication . Reis, Pedro; Juhász, Lilla; Paksi-Petró, CsillaThe world has changed with the development of electronic systems and educational systems also use the products of the virtual world. E-learning enables teachers to efficiently cooperate with students in different scientific issues; it connects people all over the world and helps the fast, flexible and efficient implementation of the new scientific and educational materials. The National University of Public Service (NUPS) established its E-Learning Centre in 2013, which became a modern education centre for innovative public service. To further develop and internationalize the system, it is beneficial to find good practices from other higher education institutions. In this paper we shortly introduce the e-learning system of the NUPS and the e-learning system of University Fernando Pessoa (UFP) (Oporto, Portugal) called Virtual University. We exchange views and experiences by sharing our practices in the hope of implementing common development projects in the future.
- Curating Digital Archives: Interoperability and Appropriation @ Po-ex.netPublication . Torres, RuiThe inherent complexity of multimodal databases constitutes a challenge in terms of structuring and interoperability. However, it also stimulates the translation of organized data into enhanced and adaptable interfaces. Using the Digital Archive of Portuguese Experimental Literature (www.po-ex.net) as a framework, I will describe possible strategies for curating digital archives, through appropriation and remixing of database assets, allowing artistic and creative re-interpretations of experimental and electronic literature.

- Teaching Poetry With New MediaPublication . Torres, RuiThe purpose of this paper is to discuss the use of interactive multimedia and hypertextual tools in literature classes. It argues for the promotion of multimedia programming within the context of creative writing, describing activities related to the conception and development of hypermedia projects in academic contexts. The first part is made up of a discussion of theoretical positions. We will provide an overview of studies about the relationship between literature and digital media. The second part of this paper will show how it is possible to articulate literary concepts such as multi-modality, intertextuality, reader-response and cooperation, with digital tools dealing with algorithms, combinatory techniques, multimedia programming, and networked hypertext. We will provide an account of projects involving the creation and recreation of experimental poetry in digital media, and through the discussion of other examples of the use of new media to teach poetry.
- Methodological Rationale for the Taxonomy of the PO.EX Digital ArchivePublication . Torres, Rui; Portela, Manuel; Sequeira, Maria do Carmo Castelo BrancoThe PO.EX Digital Archive aims to create a digital representation of large corpus of intermedia literary works produced by Portuguese authors since the 1960s. In the process of remediating these works for the current digital networked environment we address metadata issues in a way that satisfies both our material and textual analysis of intermediality, and also the interoperability requirements of current information systems. The creation of a taxonomy for organizing and classifying a diverse array of materials such as those that constitute the digital archive of Portuguese Experimental Poetry (which includes Performance, Digital, Concrete, Spatial, Sound, Video, and Visual poetry) is a challenging task for the present researchers. The purpose of this article is to offer a brief rationale for our decisions, and to explain and illustrate our classification system.
