- Time-Space compression in the Novel Kiss of the Fur Queen by Tomson Highway: a postmodern approachPublication . A inclusão das duas crianças no sistema de ensino das escolas residenciais canadianas tem um impacto profundamente negativo no desenvolvimento da sua identidade e no modo como, a partir desse momento, se relacionam com a comunidade e cultura aborígenes. Se, por um lado, a abordagem pós-moderna de Harvey contribui para entendermos a dupla identidade das personagens, resultante da experiência na escola residencial, a abordagem pós-moderna de Hutcheon da ficção canadiana permite-nos ler este romance com traços autobiográficos à luz de uma das temáticas que reflectem as ambivalências do Canadá: a dualidade nativo/colonial. Highway’s novel Kiss of the Fur Queen tells us the story of two Cree brothers and their journeys, both physical and spiritual. The inclusion of those two children in the educational system of Canadian residential schools has a strong negative impact in the development of their identity and in the way, from that moment on, they interact with the aboriginal community and culture. If, on one side, Harvey’s postmodern approach contributes to the understanding of the double identity of the characters as a result of the experience in the residential school, Hutcheon’s postmodern approach of Canadian fiction enables us to read this novel with autobiographical traits in the light of one of the themes that reflect the ambivalences in Canada: the duality native/colonial.

The translation of one of the stories of the book blooletting & miraculous Cures by the contemporary canadian writer and physician Vincent lam, winner of the Scotiabank giller Prize 2006, is presented. With this work he became not only the youngest winner of this prestigious literary award, whose previous recipients include Alice munro, margaret Atwood and mordecai richler, but also the first author to win the award with a first written work. this young writer, a doctor by training, is an emergency physician in toronto, who helped to fight the 2003 SArS outbreak at the toronto east general Hospital. the author authorized the translation and publishing of this story in the magazine of the FHS of FPU.

Por outro lado, o desenvolvimento da tecnologia em ambientes educativos resultou num interesse crescente no Ensino à Distância. O uso do ePortfólio na aprendizagem de línguas, não só como processo, mas também como produto, vai de encontro à abordagem Comunicacional do Ensino de Línguas e sustenta a pergunta de investigação de como a plataforma virtual e o ePortfólio ajudam no ensino e aprendizagem da Língua Inglesa. Este artigo relata a experiência do uso da ferramenta Cacifo Digital do software Sakai como um ePortfólio, combinado com as entrevistas de Acompanhamento em sala de aula, no âmbito do desenvolvimento do trabalho de projeto, isto é, o último módulo da unidade curricular ‘Língua Inglesa’.
- Acquisition of FL communication competence: use of the Sakai Drop Box as an ePortfolioPublication . On the other hand, the development of technology in educational settings has resulted in an increasing interest in Distance Education. The use of the ePortfolio in language learning as both a process and a product meets the Communicative Language Teaching approach and upholds the research question of how the virtual platform and the ePortfolio help in English language teaching and learning. This paper reports on the experience of using the Drop Box tool of the Sakai software as an ePortfolio, combined with the follow-up interviews in class, in the scope of the development of the project work, i.e. the last module of the curricular unit ‘English Language’.
