- Ecological walk: a proposed digital game to reduce solid waste and safeguard marine ecosystems in BrazilPublication . Pereira, Regina Célia Soares; Gouveia, Luis Borges; Dinis, Maria Alzira PimentaThe inadequate disposal of Solid Waste (SW) in the oceans is a critical threat to the marine ecosystem due to its biological, economic and social impacts, particularly in the context of Brazil reality. The conservation and sustainable use of the oceans and marine resources is one of the goals proposed in the 2030 Agenda, comprising 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Educational environmental actions are one of the measures for the implementation of SDG 4, target 4.7, which emphasizes that students must acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to promote sustainable development. It is necessary that socioenvironmental issues are treated in a transversal way, in order to contribute to the integral education of the citizen. The objective of this chapter is to identify the perception of Brazilian students at a High School Hosting course (HSH), about the damage to the marine environment and the treatment with waste, through the contents presented in the digital game Caminhada Ecológica/Ecological Walk, accessed via mobile device. The game is available on the Play Store platform for the Android system. Using a Google Docs Form, the responses of 47 students were analyzed through 5 objective questions. The Likert Scale 5 points was used, varying the score from Totally Agree to Totally Disagree, and 2 subjective questions. It was found that 95.47% of the participants agreed that the concept worked in the game sensitizes the player about the need and difficulties to keep the beach clean and the importance of the correct disposal of the SW
- Environmental bioethics, sustainable development and social responsibility in higher educationPublication . Carlotto, Ivani Nadir; Pereira, Regina Célia Soares; Dinis, Maria Alzira PimentaBackground: Environmental bioethics seeks to promote human health concurrently with the preservation of the environment, which, together with higher education (HE) seeks to achieve competencies focused on sustainable development (SD), social responsibility (SR) and maintenance of bioethical and environmental principles. Objective: To contribute to the reflection and articulation between the principles of environmental bioethics and their repercussions in HE, SD and SR. Methodology: Multivariate and exploratory analysis, cross-sectional design, with a quantitative and qualitative approach. Sample: professors from southern Brazil, random sampling, non-probabilistic for convenience (openepi = 95% CI (%), n = 1400 professors). Approved by the Research Ethics Committees of HCPA and UFP, and CAAE 550666168.0000.5327, Plataforma Brasil. Results: The statistical analysis used was Factor Analysis (FA) and Principal Component Retention (PCR) with Varimax® rotation. The FA produced 6 PCs, categorised and interpreted using Qualitative Content Analysis by Bardin, and the MAXQDA® software, making it possible to highlight the most relevant information generated by the sample. Conclusions: Environmental bioethics and HE have common objectives that interact with human health and the ecosystem. Therefore, it is prudent to work on these aspects in complementary programs that address bioethical principles such as justice, equity, solidarity and dignity and that seek to promote well-being, quality of life, equity, inclusion, sustainability and social justice, encouraging SD and SR, residing in this juxtaposition the social importance of this work. The programs that advocate the bioethical approach in their actions must be worked together, and not in isolation, because, if worked individually, they do not characterise the comprehensive character recommended by the bioethical principles.
- Environmental education in school as a contributor for social responsibility towards the sustainability of the historical and natural heritage of Cabo Frio, RJ, BrazilPublication . Pereira, Regina Célia Soares; Carlotto, Ivani Nadir; Dinis, Maria Alzira Pimenta; Gouveia, Luis BorgesDeveloping pedagogical strategies that can arouse students’ interest in social and environmental issues in a playful and stimulating way are challenges for today’s educators, playing a significant role in social responsibility within school context. The objective of this study, therefore, is to raise students’ awareness to the importance of socio-environmental preservation of the historical and natural heritage of the City of Cabo Frio, RJ, Brazil, through sustainable pedagogical actions. Aiming to develop critical learning, three pedagogical resources related to the discipline of Cultural Heritage (CH), from the Federal Fluminense Institute, campus Cabo Frio (FFI-CF) were used: (i) an interactive dialogue (PI), (ii) a guided technical visit by nautical route, to identify the main assets of the city and (iii) the application of a quiz through the Kahoot application on mobile devices to assess learning. The target audience was 1st-year students of the Integrated High School Hosting Course (IHSHC). The exploratory-descriptive methodology was used with an ethnographic approach of a qualitative nature, where the pedagogical actions were linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. Students showed interest in knowing the city’s heritage, and discussed among themselves the importance of sustainable practices to minimize anthropogenic impacts on the environment. The application of Kahoot app allowed the learning in a playful way comprising the local socio-environmental reality.
- Gender equality indicators in higher education: SDG 5 perspective and bioethical approachPublication . Carlotto, Ivani Nadir; Pereira, Regina Célia Soares; Dinis, Maria Alzira PimentaIn this topic, the objective is to identify and clarify the concepts predominantly used in this article, so that they can make sense and be understood in the context of gender equality in the higher education. Therefore, the most used terms include Bioethics is an area of inter and transdisciplinary study that involves Ethics and Biology, based on the ethical principles that govern life and its ethical dilemmas, emerging as a reflexive response on human interactions in society and in their environments. The bioethical principles are the model of bioethical analysis traditionally used and of great application in clinical practice in most countries is the principalist, introduced by Beauchamp and Childress (1979). These authors propose four fundamental bioethical principles: autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice, in a prima facie sense. However, these principles can be expanded according to the bioethical line adopted in a given reality, to obtain a reflection on an ethical dilemma. The gender equality is the concept that defends social equivalence between the sexes, with equal opportunities for men and women. Gender equity, in turn, refers to equity in treatment for women and men, according to their respective needs. It is important to clarify the concept surrounding the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda (SDG). These Goals are a collection of 17 global goals designed to be a model for achieving a better and more sustainable future for everyone. The SDGs, established in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and expected to be reached by 2030, are part of UN Resolution 70/1, the 2030 Agenda.

This study may interest educators working with the sustainability theme within environmental education practices.
- The Use of Mobile Devices in Environmental EducationPublication . Pereira, Regina Célia Soares; Dinis, Maria Alzira Pimenta; Gouveia, Luis BorgesDigital media plays an essential role in the area of Environmental Education. This study intends to propose an activity involving media in environmental education. The participants came from a Technical Teacher Training school in the municipality of Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This city has been suffering with environmental damages and precariousness in the supply of water and sewage treatment, in addition to the excessive amount of solid waste thrown on the beaches in the high season. Among these, coconut waste. Faced with this situation, a thematic proposal was developed with the students, comprising an interactive lecture about different ways of reusing solid coconut waste and about the harmful implications when it is released to the environment. In order to accompany learning, a playful activity was performed using the mobile device feature in the Kahoot! application. Students were then asked to answer a questionnaire in an interactive and collaborative way. It is therefore possible to understand the success of this kind of playful activities and its possibilities, associated to games using mobile devices, in the context of the teaching-learning process. It can be concluded that the media-education through mobile devices improves cognitive development, autonomy, creativity and enables an eminent awareness about social-environmental problems.
