- O saber da crença religiosaPublication . Campelo, ÁlvaroNo discurso da crença religiosa, como o de qualquer outra crença, sempre o problema se centrou na questão essencial do seu conteúdo estabelecer uma relação problemática com a verdade. Abordando as várias teorias clássicas sobre a crença, e reafirmando o seu conteúdo como um objecto pertinente e urgente dentro dos estudos antropológicos, procuramos utilizar e propôr novos caminhos de acesso ao “saber” presente no discurso da crença. Através da psicologia cognitiva, da linguística, nomeadamente a denominada linguagem ordinária, procuraremos abrir possibilidades de investigação no campo da crença religiosa, como forma de chegarmos ao conhecimento – “ao saber” – da visão do mundo de uma sociedade e de como ela expressa a sua “interpretação/acção” nesse mesmo mundo. In the discourse of religious belief, like that of any other belief, the question has always been centred on the fundamental issue that beliefs´ contents establish a problematic relationship with the truth. Considering several classical theories on belief, and restating their contacts as a currently pertinent object in anthropological studies, the author presents new forms of accessing the knowledge that is part of the belief discourse. Through Cognitive Psychology and Linguistics, the author proposes new research approaches in the field of religious belief, as a way of reaching this knowledge, the world view of a society and how that society expresses its interpretation in that very same world.
- Educación sin antropología: el caso de los temas transversalesPublication . Vendrell Ferré, JoanAnálise das consequências da não inclusão da Antropologia e de outras Ciências Sociais na construção dos novos programas educativos em Espanha. Para o autor, existem dois factos que condicionam os planos pedagógicos: o cientifismo e o “triunfo das pedagogias psicológicas”. O cientifismo, entendido como uma ideologia com pretensões hegemónicas, não pode ser questionado se a Filosofia, a Antropologia ou outras Ciências Sociais desaparecem do Curriculum Básico. E o mesmo ocorre com as pedagogias baseadas na psicologia “científica”. Estamos perante uma verdadeira expropriação sócio-cultural, acompanhada por um culto do indivíduo – narcisismo. Palavras ou expressões com o prefixo “auto” são muito comuns nos objectivos do novo Curriculum educativo em Espanha. Tal pode ser visto no caso dos “temas transversais”, levantando questões quanto às consequências da exclusão nos novos programas dos conteúdos antropológicos. This paper explores the consequences of not including Anthropology or other Social Sciences in the design of the new education programs in Spain. For the author, there are two facts that are conditioning the pedagogic plans: scientifism and “the triumph of pedagogic psychologies”. Scientifism as an ideology with hegemonical pretensions can´t be questioned if Philosophy, Anthropology or other Social Sciences disappear from the Basic Curriculum. And the same occurs with pedagogies based on the “scientific” psychology. We are facing a real sociocultural expropriation, accompanied by a cult of the individual – narcissism. Words or expressions having the prefix “self” are very common in the objectives of the new Curriculum in Spain. This can be seen in the case of the “transversal themes”, and we can ask ourselves about the consequences of excluding anthropological contents in the new programs.
- Festas e rituais com que vivemos: nivelamento ou diferenciação?Publication . Lameiras, AlbertoFestivals, an age-old phenomena in traditional societies, are in all cultures the object of the most varied descriptions and anthropological interpretations. For some people, the festival is a manifestation of great importance in the accomplishment of the human needs of both individual and social well-being. The ideal festival is the one which characterized by the allowed excess, transgression and the social paradox of purification and renovation. For some others, the party must be the affirmation of an accomplishment appropriate to the new era, obeying the principles of the utilitarian rationalism, and to technical and bureaucratic planning. Tradition and modernity, festival and work are dicotomical relations, which complete each other in the creation of present day rituals and festivals. Les fêtes, des phénomènes de l´expérience milénaire des sociètes traditionnelles, sont en toutes les cultures objet des plus diversifiées descriptions et interprétations anthropologiques. Pour quelques uns, la fête idéale est caractérisée par l´excess permis, la transgression, le paroxysme social de purification et renouvellement. Pour des autres, la fête doi être une réalisation des temps modernes, obéir aux principes de la rationalité utilitaire, à la planification technique et bureaucratique. Tradition et modernité, fête et travail ce sont des relations dicotomiques qui se complètent dans la recréation des rituels et des fêtes de nos jours.
- Ordinateur et sociétéPublication . Tremblay, AndréL´ordinateur est une technologie polymorphe aux effects sociaux multiples. L´auteur considère trois de ces aspects: comme objet de consommation, comme moyen de production et comme moyen de communication. Il essaie de rendre compte de ces trois aspects en évitant de tomber dans les excès d´optimisme ou de pessimisme que la généralisation de l´informatique a souvent entraîne. L´auteur inscrit donc son analyse de chacun des thèmes, respectivement, dans le contexte plus général de la société de consommation, dans l´évolution des modes d´organisation du travail et, finalement, vis-à-vis les infrastructures installées. Il soulève plus particulièrement le problème des communications interculturelles en prenant le contrôle de la pornographie en exemple. O autor analisa os múltiplos efeitos sociais da utilização do computador. Considera, em particular, três aspectos fundamentais: objecto de consumo, meio de produção e meio de comunicação. Descreve, em seguida, estes três aspectos, evitando cair nos excessos associados à informática. O autor também insere a análise destes aspectos, respectivamente, no contexto da sociedade de consumo, na evolução da organização do trabalho e no quadro das infraestruturas instaladas. Trata, por fim, da comunicação intercultural, utilizando a pornografia como exemplo.
- Museu do Abade de Baçal (Bragança, Portugal)Publication . Lira, SérgioO autor pretende neste artigo dar a conhecer o Museu do Abade de Baçal, Bragança. Assim, apresenta brevemente tanto a história das colecções que actualmente integram o museu, como a história do edifício que o acolhe. De seguida, recordando uma visita recentemente realizada, descreve o museu guiando o leitor através das várias salas. Ao longo desta “visita virtual”, é chamada a atenção do leitor para aspectos que pareceram mais significativos e dignos de referência. In this paper the author presents the Museum Abade de Baçal, Bragança (North Portugal). The first topic is the history of the museum’s collections and the history of the building where the museum is located. The museum is then described room after room as the author reflects on a recent visit. During this “virtual visit” some particularly relevant aspects are discussed.

The mass media plays an important role in our day to day life and, as a result, the Social Sciences have turned their attention to them. In our predominantly urban world the image of the city that the newspapers give us is going to modify our perception and behaviour as urban dwellers.

Montenegro, MiguelEste texto procura evidenciar a forte compatibilidade entre a etnometodologia fundada por Harold Garfinkel e a etnologia tal qual ela foi concebida e posta em prática por Robert Jaulin. Para fazê-lo, começa-se por uma crítica dos métodos da sociologia das massas, o que nos permite chegar aos fundamentos de toda a abordagem compreensiva: os fenómenos sociais são fenómenos. Ce texte essaie de mettre à jour la forte compatibilité entre l´ethnométhodologie de Harold Garfinkel et l´ethnologie telle qu´elle a été coçue et mise à l´oeuvre par Robert Jaulin. Pour ce faire, on commence par une critique des méthodes de la sociologie des masses, ce qui nous permet de venir aux fondements de toute approche compréhensive: les phénomènes sociaux sont des phénomènes.

- A antropologia na educação: abertura antropológica sem antropólogosPublication . Santos, Paula Mota; Seixas, Paulo CastroAnálise do lugar da Antropologia no Sistema de Ensino português, questionando o papel que a Antropologia e os antropólogos têm e podem vir a ter no Ensino Básico e Secundário em Portugal, a partir da última reforma educativa. Propõe-se a existência, nesta reforma, do paradoxo de uma ideologia antropológica que exclui os antropólogos. Analise-se a figura do professor, licenciado em Antropologia, e do antropólogo de escola, como lugares possíveis do uso social da Antropologia no meio escolar. An analysis of anthropology´s place in the Portuguese educational system by questioning the role that anthropology and anthropologists have and could have at both the middle and secondary education levels since the last reform of the educational system. The existence in this reform of a paradox is stated through the identification of an anthropological ideology that excludes anthropologists. The role of the teacher with a degree in anthropology, and that of the school anthropologist are both analysed and presented as possible uses of anthropology and anthropologists in the school system.
- Género e família na construção das identidades portuguesas no CanadáPublication . Cole, SallyIn an ethnographic case study, gender and household relations are found to play in a Portuguese “community” in southwestern Ontario, Canada. The analysis focusses on the households of emigrants from the fishing town of Nazaré whose members also work in fishing in Canada. Comparison is made with Canadian households of emigrants from the Azores and Trás-os-Montes. Emigrants from the three regions are found to be differently located in the Canadian economy and to maintain different ideals and practices in the reconstitution of household and gender relations in a transnational context. Num estudo de caso, são consideradas as relações de género e de domesticidade que actuam numa comunidade portuguesa da Província do Ontário. A análise foca a domesticidade de emigrantes da Nazaré que, também no Canadá, encontraram a sua actividade principal na pesca. Faz-se uma comparação com a domesticidade de emigrantes dos Açores e Trás-os-Montes. Os portugueses destas três regiões têm, na economia canadiana, nichos ocupacionais diferentes e, bem assim, práticas de domesticidade e relações de género diversificadas.
