O Sistema Prisional brasileiro, com instalações comparadas a calabouços, grande excedente de presos, que coloca o país no terceiro lugar mundial em número de encarcerados, e elevadas taxas de reincidência, suscitou a necessidade de se encontrar outras possibilidades distintas da privação de liberdade. A Política de Alternativas Penais surge como resposta a esta problemática. O trabalho que se descortina, vai em busca de identificar as contribuições da Psicologia nesta proposta civilizatória. Qual o papel? Quais as contribuições e qual a relevância do trabalho dos psicólogos nesta seara? Através de revisão bibliográfica e pesquisa documental, percorre-se a aproximação da Psicologia com o campo jurídico, traçando o caminho de encontro desta ciência com a política de alternativas penais, também contextualizada a partir de seu nascedouro. A identificação das atividades dos psicólogos se dá por meio de publicações e diretrizes do Conselho Nacional de Justiça e do Ministério da Justiça do Brasil, identificadas não somente em suas portarias, resoluções e notas técnicas, mas também a partir dos documentos que fundamentam os convênios para repasse de recursos federais aos estados, dentro da política de fomento a aplicação de alternativas penais. Estas contribuições são confrontadas com os princípios e diretrizes dos Conselhos Federal e Regionais de Psicologia, igualmente por meio de suas normatizações e orientações diversas. Ao final, fica evidente o compromisso dos psicólogos, dentro de práticas interdisciplinares, com o avanço desta política em congruência com os valores defendidos pelos órgãos regulamentadores da profissão no Brasil.
The Brazilian Prison System, with facilities compared to dungeons, a large surplus of prisoners, which places the country in the third place in the world in terms of number of prisoners and high recidivism rates, raised the need to find other possibilities than deprivation of liberty. The Criminal Alternatives Policy emerges as an answer to this problem. The work that unfolds, seeks to identify the contributions of Psychology in this civilizing proposal. What is the role? What are the contributions and the relevance of the psychologists work in this field? Through bibliographic review and documentary research, Psychology is approached with the legal field, tracing the path of encounter between this science and the criminal alternatives policy, also contextualized from its birthplace. Psychologists’ activities are identified through publications and guidelines of the National Council of Justice and the Ministry of Justice of Brazil, identified not only in their ordinances, resolutions and technical notes, but also from the documents that support the agreements for the transfer of federal funds to the states, within the policy of fostering the application of criminal alternatives. These contributions are compared with the principles and guidelines of the Federal and Regional Psychology Councils, also through their norms and diverse guidelines. In the end, it is evident the commitment of psychologists, within interdisciplinary practices, with the advancement of this policy in line with the values defended by Organs regulatory bodies of the profession in Brazil.
