Abstract(s)
menos adequados e aumentar o sucesso escolar.
alunos
Indiscipline is one of the most worrying problems of school reality, with repercussions on students’ marks. Therefore, a study on students’ perception about indiscipline and school failure is relevant. The main purpose of this thesis is to understand the perception of indiscipline and failure of students attending 5th and 6th grades. For this descriptive quantitative study, a questionnaire was used with closed questions where 97 students from ages 11 to 14, attending a school in Santa Cruz participated. The results show that 60% of the respondents consider that indiscipline in school comes from the lack of interest and motivation. The majority of the students (75%) agrees on sanctions as a way to improve misbehaving and increase success in school. The findings show that 42% of the participants believe that the non-compliance is due to situations that do not involve the school and 49% assume the executive management should be more authoritarian towards indiscipline. It was verified that there is no influence on school failure and on the student’s gender or the parents monitoring. At the same time, the father’s qualifications were found positively and systematically correlated with school failure. The majority of the participants believe that the directions about rules of procedure and educational project are not suitable for the school’s reality. Moreover, the respondents consider that the class representatives and sub-representatives should participate on the creation of this document. Based on the results, a group of recommendations was organised to be presented to the Educational Community
