A poética de Poe é aqui vista como tendo a sua base numa dupla distinção entre três formas
de objectos de pensamento – a verdade, o Belo e o Dever – e três capacidades do espírito –
o Intelecto Puro, o Sabor e o Sentido Moral. Poe’s poetics is here conceived as having its basis in a twofold distinction between three
kinds of objects of thought - the True, the Beautiful and the Duty – and three faculties of the mind – the Pure Intellect, the Taste and the Moral Sense.
