| dc.description.abstract | Víctor Hugo Viscarra murió en mayo de 2006 dejando atrás libros de cuentos, escritos autobiográfi cos y crónicas urbanas acerca de los habitantes más marginales de la ciudad de La Paz. Estos escritos emergen de la experiencia personal en un mundo de mendigos, borrachos y aparapitas, y son, en este sentido, testimoniales, conectándose con la rica tradición de literatura paceña constituida por Arturo Borda, Jaime Saenz, René Bascopé Aspiazu, entre otros. La característica distintiva de estos escritos, sin embargo, es el hecho de que el autor-narrador se distancia de los autores educados y de clase media antes mencionados (especialmente de Saenz, un modelo esencial de la literatura vinculada al Otro radical de la muerte y de la marginalidad paceña), enfatizando sus humildes orígenes y la naturaleza no académica, no institucionalizada de su escritura. La esencia del acto de escritura y de los temas tratados está constituida por una vida vivida en las calles, entre los más radicalmente pobres y olvidados. En este contexto, este ensayo trata sobre la muerte como tema central de la literatura de Viscarra. Las crudas realidades descritas están definidas por la oscura y, sin embargo, familiar presencia y cercanía de la muerte. La vida, así, es algo representado como siempre al fi lo, a punto de caer fi nalmente en el abismo. Viscarra murió como muchos de sus personajes, como sus escritos decían que probablemente moriría, y este ensayo es un homenaje a él. Víctor Hugo Viscarra died in May of 2006 leaving behind collections of short stories, autobiographical writings and chronicles dealing with the most marginal dwellers of the city of La Paz. These writings emerge from personal experience in a world of beggars, drunkards and prostitutes, and are, in this sense, testimonial, connecting themselves to a rich tradition in the literature of La Paz, that of Arturo Borda, Jaime Saenz and René Bascopé Aspiazu, among others. The distinctive feature of these writings, though, is the fact that the author-narrator distances himself of middle class, educated authors such as those mentioned (specially Saenz, an absolute model for literature dealing with the radical Other of death and marginal life in La Paz), stressing his humble origins and the non-academic, non-institutionalized nature of his writings. It is a life lived in the streets, among the poorer and most radically forgotten of people who constitute the essence of the act of writing and of the topics written about. In this context, this essay deals with death as a major topic of Viscarra literature. The crude realities depicted are defi ned by the dark and yet familiar presence and nearness of death. Life, then, is something represented as permanently on the edge, on the verge of fi nally falling into the abyss. Viscarra died as many of his characters, as his writings said he would probably die, and this is an essay written as homage to him. | por |
