A prática de voleibol de alto rendimento implica que os atletas pratiquem uma ingestão alimentar adequada às suas necessidades energéticas e nutricionais e ao gasto energético decorrente dos treinos e jogos, com vista a otimizar a composição corporal e o rendimento desportivo. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a ingestão nutricional e a composição corporal de uma amostra portuguesa de atletas de voleibol durante o período competitivo de 2019. Noventa e um atletas de alta competição de voleibol (16.4 ± 3.1 anos) foram avaliados, com vista à obtenção de dados relativos à prática de desporto, história médica e ginecológica, ingestão nutricional e composição corporal. Os atletas demonstraram uma percentagem de massa gorda acima das recomendações, tanto no sexo feminino (16.1 ± 4.2 %) como no sexo masculino (24.6 ± 4.6 %). Verificou-se uma baixa disponibilidade energética (34.5 ± 13.7 kcal/kg MLG/dia). A densidade mineral óssea encontrou-se dentro do normal (z-score ≥ -2). Os voleibolistas exibiram inadequações na distribuição dos macronutrientes, uma ingestão insuficiente de vitamina A, vitamina D, vitamina B9, potássio, cálcio, magnésio e ferro e excessiva de sódio. Salienta-se, a necessidade de uma intervenção junto dos atletas, com vista à maximização da composição corporal e da ingestão nutricional.
The practice of high-performance volleyball implies that athletes practice an adequate food intake to their energy and nutritional needs and energy expenditure inherent to training and matches, in order to optimize body composition and sports performance. This study aimed to evaluate the nutritional intake and body composition of a Portuguese sample of volleyball athletes during the 2019 competitive period. Ninety-one high performance volleyball athletes (16.4 ± 3.1 years old) were evaluated to obtain data relating to sport practice, medical and gynaecological history, nutritional intake and body composition. Athletes showed a percentage of fat mass above the recommendations, both in females (16.1 ± 4.2 %) and males (24.6 ± 4.6 %). A low energy availability was observed (34.5 ± 13.7 kcal/kg FFM/day). Bone mineral density was within normal range (z-score ≥ -2). Volleyball players exhibited inadequacies in the distribution of macronutrients, an insufficient intake of vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin B9, potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron and an excessive intake of sodium. We emphasize the need for an intervention with athletes, in order to maximize body composition and nutritional intake.
