Auto-conceito e estilos cognitivos em alunos do 7º ano de escolaridade do grande Porto

Abstract(s)
O presente estudo tem como objectivo geral analisar as relações entre o nível de
Auto-Conceito e o tipo de Estilo Cognitivo, em função do género, nível socioeconómico
(NSE) e dos resultados escolares às disciplinas de Português e Matemática, em alunos
do 7º Ano de escolaridade. Pretendemos também contribuir para adaptar e aferir o
Group Embeded Figures Teste (GEFT) para a população portuguesa. Os instrumentos
utilizados foram a o Questionário Sócio-Demográfico, a Escala de Competência
Percebida para Crianças e Adolescentes e o Group Embeded Figures Teste e as pautas
escolares do 3º período.
A amostra é constituída por 522 participantes, dos quais 263 são do sexo
masculino e 259 do sexo feminino, distribuídos por três níveis socioeconómicos,
Alto/Médio Alto (n=123), Médio (n=254) e Médio Baixo/Baixo (n=141), a
frequentarem o 7º Ano de escolaridade em estabelecimentos públicos (n=346) e
privados (n=176).
Os resultados dos estudos diferenciais demonstram que são os sujeitos do sexo
feminino que apresentam maior nível de Competência Percebida na ECPCA, assim
como na subescala Comportamento/Conduta, já os sujeitos do sexo masculino
apresentam melhores resultados nas subescalas Competência Física/Atlética, na Auto
Estima Global e Competência a Matemática. Quanto ao Estilo Cognitivo, dependente e
independente de campo, não existe relação em função do sexo.
Os resultados dos estudos correlacionais apontam para uma correlação baixa
entre a Competência a Português e a nota final à disciplina de Português e uma
correlação moderada entre a Competência a Matemática e a nota final à disciplina de
matemática.
Os sujeitos com nível alto de Competência Percebida pertencem, na sua maioria,
ao NSE Médio Baixo/Baixo; os sujeitos dependentes de campo pertencem ao NSE
Médio e os sujeitos independentes de campo pertencem ao NSE Alto/Médio Alto. Os
sujeitos independentes são os que obtêm melhores resultados às disciplinas de
Português e Matemática.
Foi encontrada uma associação entre a Competência Percebida e os Estilos
Cognitivos que nos permite dizer que a maioria dos dependentes de campo apresenta
nível alto de Competência Percebida. Os independentes de campo obtêm maior nível de
competência percebida nas subescalas Competência Escolar/Cognição, Auto-Estima
Global e Competência a Matemática.
This study aims at analyzing the relationship between Self-Concept and
Cognitive Style according gender, socioeconomic status (SES) and final results to the
disciplines of Portuguese and Mathematics, students in the 7th year. We also intend to
help adjust and measure the Group Embeded Figures Test (GEFT) for the Portuguese
population. The instruments used were the Socio-Demographic Questionnaire, the
Perceived Competence Scale for Children and Adolescents, the Group Embeded Figures
Test and the agendas of school 3rd period.
The samples consists of 522 participants, of whom 263 are males and 259
females, divided into three socioeconomic levels, High/Medium High (n=123), Middle
(n=254) and Medium Low/Low (n=141), to attend the 7th year of schooling in public
establishments (n=346) and private (n=176).
The differential studies show that the female subjects have the highest Perceived
Competence, as well as subscales Behaviour/Conduct; the male subjects have better
results on the subscales Physical Competence/Athletic, Global Self Esteem and
Mathematics Competence. There is no relationship between Cognitive Style according
sex.
The results of correlational studies show a low correlation between the
Portuguese Competence and the final result of Portuguese discipline and a moderate
correlation between Mathematics Competence and final result of Mathematics
discipline.
Subjects with high Perceived Competence belong mostly to SES Medium
Low/Low, the field-dependent subjects belong to SES Middle and field independent
subjects belong to SES High/Medium High. The subjects field-independent have better
results to the disciplines of Mathematics and Portuguese.
We found an association between the Perceived Competence and Cognitive
Style allows us to say that most field-dependent shows high level of Perceived
Competence. The field-independent have higher level of Perceived Competence
subscales School Competence/Cognition, Global Self Esteem and Mathematics
Competence.
