- Astrobiology and panspermiaPublication . Wickramasinghe, ChandraDarwin’s allegorical “warm little pond” was most probably located outside the Earth and Darwinian evolution, including genetic transfers occurred over a vast galactic scale. How did life arise? Not just on the Earth, but anywhere in the Universe? Does life emerge readily on every Earth-like planet by spontaneous processes involving well attested laws of physics and chemistry, or did it involve an extraordinary, even miraculous intervention? Science must necessarily exclude a miraculous option of course, but the other questions continue to be asked.
- Cosmological thinking: cultural heritage and challengePublication . Bertolami, OrfeuThe limitations of current technology do not allow one to foresee the expansion of the humankind beyond our planet for at least a few decades. Furthermore, the laws of physics, as for as they are known, preclude any form of traveling beyond the speed of light, as well as any viable and stable space-time shortcuts (wormholes, warp-drives, etc) that would facilitate cosmic traveling. Given the vastness of the Universe these are insurmountable obstacles for any in situ exploration of the cosmos beyond our most immediate cosmic neighbourhood. Nevertheless, the Universe is transparent and contains countless sources of visible light. Actually, in the last decades, technological developments have made possible to observe the cosmos throughout most of the electromagnetic spectrum as well as to perform dynamical studies that allow perceiving the presence of invisible components such as black holes, dark matter and dark energy. In this respect, humankind has then been given the opportunity to unravel the inner workings of the cosmos and through this process be part of the cosmic habitat. In this contribution various forms of cosmological thinking will be discussed, from some myths of creation till some of the latest scientific discoveries.
- A diferenciação cósmica do humanoPublication . Silva, Carlos H. do C.Trata-se de equacionar a procura da alteridade no âmbito do Cosmos e da sua diversa perspectivação, chamando a atenção para como uma consciência diferencial pode constituir nova abordagem não apenas de auto-referenciação, mas também de conhecimento da “identidade” do mundo. Numa primeira parte, faz-se breve consideração sobre as principais configurações do Cosmos, também como espelho de uma identidade (humana) perdida. Referem-se ainda alguns balizamentos históricos do problema do mundo e das suas principais clivagens epistemológicas. Depois reflecte-se sobre as várias formas de alteridade – também tendo em conta contributos da história da filosofia para este questionamento e salientando uma original mutação de consciência num pensar diferencial, que aqui se defende. De seguida, extraem-se consequências, quer nas dificuldades de identificação própria do humano – mesmo como “mundo interior” de referência –, quer no fecundo alargamento das concepções científicas do mundo em outras identidades universais, em paradigmas de abertura à pluralidade, ao pluridimensional e até à infinitude. Conclui-se pela diferenciação cósmica do humano no percurso desta abordagem por via da natureza num paralelo com outras vias de realização de transcendência, seja por um caminho sapiencial, como na Antiguidade e, em especial, na tradição oriental, seja mesmo na vida espiritual.
- Discos voadores: entre a crença e o conhecimentoPublication . Reis, Carlos; Rodrigues, UbirajaraThrough a multidisciplinary approach, albeit synthetic, comprising studies in the fields of psychology, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, astrobiology, history, mytholog, and religion, the authors of a book released in Brazil, in 2009, «The Deconstruction of a Myth», walk the winding paths of the UFO universe, pointing out the errors and mistakes self-powered by inadequate procedures and sometimes biased by the researchers. Calling for science fiction, the behavioral nuances of the witnesses and the corrosive and intimate relation with religion and pseudo-spiritualist doctrines, contributed heavily to compose the unreal and distorted scenary that is observed today throughout the world, in the permanent struggle between belief and knowledge. This article proposes a critical and careful analysis in order to demonstrate that the reality of facts is different from that rooted in the popular imagination. Taking as models the commented reactions observed shortly after the release of their work, the authors saw confirmed the thesis of an announced rebellion of factions against the proposal breach of the work, to try to impose that what they believe is the established truth and the existence of alien ships manned in constant visits to the planet is unquestionable. Based on the premise that the Ufology appeared and was driven from cultural and historical mistakes, this new approach is part of the present era when the corrective macrovision of the facts states upon in all fields of knowledge, and the Ufology could not be taken as an exception. The aim of this article is to present a more scientific approach to the subject based on studies of broad-spectrum. Através de uma abordagem multidisciplinar, ainda que sintética, envolvendo estudos em psicologia, sociologia, antropologia, filosofia, astrobiologia, história, mitologia e religião, os autores de um livro lançado no Brasil em 2009, “A Desconstrução de um Mito”, percorrem os sinuosos caminhos do universo ufológico apontando os erros e os equívocos auto-alimentados pelos procedimentos inadequados e, por vezes, tendenciosos dos próprios investigadores. A influência da ficção científica, as nuances de comportamento das testemunhas e a íntima relação com a religião e doutrinas pseudo-espiritualista contribuem fortemente para compor o quadro irreal e distorcida que se observa hoje em todo o mundo, no permanente embate entre crença e conhecimento. Este artigo propõe uma análise crítica e cuidadosa, a fim de demonstrar que a realidade dos fatos é muito diferente daquela enraizada no imaginário popular. Tomando como modelo as reações observadas logo após o lançamento daquele livro, os autores viram confirmadas a tese de total indignação de facções contrárias à proposta da obra, que tentam impor o que acreditam ser a verdade estabelecida:a existência de naves alienígenas tripulados e de constantes visitas ao planeta é inquestionável. Com base na premissa de que a Ufologia surgiu e se desenvolve através de uma somatória de erros sociais e culturais, esta nova abordagem integra uma macrovisão historiográfica corretiva dos fatos que se desemvolve em todas as áreas do conhecimento, e a Ufologia não poderia ser um exceção. O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar uma abordagem mais científica do tema fundamentada em estudos de largo especto.
- Electrodinâmica fluídica: interpretação das forças electromagnéticas e de inércia em termos hidromecânicosPublication . Martins, Alexandre A.Este artigo irá tentar fornecer uma interpretação física das forças electromagnéticas e de inércia, mostrando um paralelo entre a equação da força electromagnética para uma partícula carregada e a equação da força hidrodinâmica para uma massa que se move imersa num fluido perfeito. As semelhanças entre estas duas equações contém evidências de que o vácuo se comporta como um fluido perfeito e de que as forças electromagnéticas e de inércia podem ser interpretadas como tendo a sua origem em gradientes de pressão neste fluido que constitui o vácuo, o qual ganha um significado físico muito forte no contexto desta teoria. É mostrado que o vector potencial criado por uma partícula carregada em movimento age como a velocidade deste fluido. A interacção entre uma partícula e o fluido que a rodeia dá origem às propriedades observadas da inércia e do aumento relativista da massa. A derivada temporal do vector potencial gera a força de reacção de inércia com a aceleração, e a derivada convectiva do vector potencial está relacionada com o aumento relativista da massa com a velocidade. De forma correspondente, é demonstrado que a força de resistência exercida numa partícula que se move num fluido perfeito produz dois efeitos: resistência à aceleração e um aumento da massa com a velocidade, consequência do arrastamento do fluido pela partícula. Esta nova perspectiva sobre a origem física das forças electromagnéticas e de inércia representa uma via promissora na criação de novos conceitos de propulsão.
- Exoconsciousness and psychopathologyPublication . Hardcastle, RebeccaThis paper discusses the concept of exoconsciousness within the framework of Karl Jaspers’ General Psychopathology, presenting evidence for the UFO extraterrestrial experience to be reclassified from pathological to normal. The recommended reclassification is based on psychiatric advancements in Jaspers’ psychopathology that lead to acceptance of the quantum-based concept of exoconsciousness. A physician and philosopher of his time, Jaspers’ psychopathology fits comfortably in a Western Newtonian and Kantian dualistic orientation. 1.) And yet, by identifying psychiatric and philosophical limits and dilemmas, he creates an intellectual framework for the possibilities inherent in quantum science. 2.) By identifying the importance of the cultural context in defining psychopathology, he further creates a necessary opening for redefining the UFO extraterrestrial experience as normal within the emerging 21st Century culture of contact.

- O fundo musical da história: memória, sagrado e tradição indígenasPublication . Dantas, Sérgio NevesNeste artigo abordo a experiência do sagrado à luz do dinamismo proporcionado pelos vários campos de composição musical indígena. Dirijo-me, em especial, ao contexto cultural do Nordeste brasileiro, particularmente representado pela sociedade indígena Fulni-ô, no interior de Pernambuco, para dar relevo aos significados estéticos e simbólico-regenerativos ligados ao repertorio musical que estrutura a fenomenologia religiosa nessa sociedade. Nas múltiplas ambiências de instauração simétrica do sagrado e da música, destaco o valor do Toré (e suas variantes) nas condições em que este imerge na memória coletiva, no ritual e nos canais contemporâneos de tecnologia musical (compact disk-CD’s, bandas étnicas eletrônicas etc.). In this paper the author focuses on the experience of the sacred in the light of multiple dimensions of Indigenous traditional music. He analyses the particular experience lived with the Indians Fulni-ô, at the country city of Águas Belas in the state of Pernambuco (Northeastern Brazil), in order to consider the aesthetic and symbolic-regenerative meanings of the musical repertoire that structure the religious phenomenology in this society. In the multiple perspectives of symmetrical instauration of the sacred and music, he emphasizes the value of the Toré (and its variants) under the conditions it immerges into the collective memory, ritual as well as in the modern musical technologies (CD’s-compact dik, Digital versatile diks-DVD’ s etc.).

Arnould, JacquesDuring the Jewish celebration of Passover, the youngest of the assembly has to request: “When these events did take place? ” The oldest one answers: “It was tomorrow.” A manner of affirming the singularity of the human being which, to survive and grow, must unceasingly cross new passages, without disavowing its past. But is a future still possible, when reality was désacralisée, when the threats are increasingly precise, when also we think of being able to create a new humanity? We should not hesitate to pose the thresholds of sacred where our ignorance starts, in order to reserve a space of freedom to us. Without it, our humanity would be likely to disappear, without a future.
