Abstract(s)

A deficiente higiene das mãos ou mesmo a sua ausência constitui o principal motivo de desenvolvimento de infeções associadas aos cuidados de saúde (IACS), sendo estas uma das maiores causas de morte em todo o mundo. Os bombeiros, como primeiro contato entre o doente e a unidade de saúde, são cruciais para que o doente entre na unidade de saúde na melhor condição possível. Ora, se a higiene das mãos for insuficiente ou mesmo ausente por parte dos bombeiros, existe o risco de, ao entrar em contato com o doente, serem-lhe transmitidos microrganismos que poderão vir a ser nocivos para o doente e que poderão retardar ou mesmo impossibilitar a recuperação total do seu estado de saúde. Tendo noção da importância desta temática, desenvolveu-se o presente Projeto de Graduação, com o tema “Conhecimento sobre Higiene das Mãos – Estudo exploratório numa Corporação de Bombeiros Voluntários.”. Este teve como objetivo identificar se os elementos do corpo ativo dos Bombeiros Voluntários de Ermesinde possuem conhecimentos sobre Higiene das Mãos. Para a concretização deste Projeto de Graduação foi aplicado um questionário aos bombeiros que integram os quadros ativo e de comando da Associação Humanitária dos Bombeiros Voluntários de Ermesinde. Este instrumento de recolha de dados possibilitou verificar se os inquiridos tinham conhecimentos acerca da higiene das mãos. Os resultados deste estudo indicam que os bombeiros da Associação Humanitária dos Bombeiros Voluntários de Ermesinde apresentam conhecimentos suficientes relativamente à higiene das mãos, verificando-se no entanto algumas lacunas relacionadas com a temática. Com a realização deste estudo constatou-se uma necessidade em promover a adesão à higiene das mãos, alertar para a necessidade de programas de formação atualizados e motivar e sensibilizar os bombeiros para o tema em estudo. Poor hand hygiene or even its absence is the main reason for development of healthcare-associated infections (HCAI), which are a major cause of death worldwide. Firefighters, as the first contact between the patient and the health unit, are crucial to the patient’s entrance in the health unit in the best condition possible. Now, if hand hygiene is insufficient or even absent from the firefighter, there is a risk, when in contact with the patient, of transmitting microorganisms that may be harmful to the patient and that may slow or even preclude full recovery of his health. With regard to the importance of this issue, this Graduation Project was developed, with the theme "Knowledge on Hand Hygiene - an exploratory study on Volunteer Fire Brigade.". This aimed to identify if the elements of the active body of Volunteer Firefighters of Ermesinde have knowledge of Hand Hygiene. For the accomplishment of this graduation project a questionnaire was applied to the firefighters that make up the active and command frames of the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Ermesinde. This instrument of data collection enabled to verify whether the respondents had knowledge about hand hygiene. The results of this study indicate that the fire department of Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Ermesinde have sufficient knowledge about hand hygiene, but still exist some shortcomings related to the theme. With this study it was found a need to promote adherence to hand hygiene, alert to the need for updated training programs and to motivate and sensitize the fire department to the topic under study.
