Introduction: The mandibles overdentures are one of the possibilities of prosthetic rehabilitation, looking for consistency and retention due to the difficulty that the patients face by using a total formal prosthesis. An important factor to this treatment success is the right choice of the retention system that is used. Objective: The main objective of this work is the bibliographic revision of the conditions about the teeth supported overdenture achievement, as well as the retention system that can be used according to the clinical condition. Materials and Methods: Bibliographic research through the searching links of MEDLINE/Pubmed, Science direct and B-on in the date between March 2010 and June 2010 with the following keywords: overdentures, attachment, rehabilitation, retention system, denture partial removable, dental prosthesis retention, teeth supported overdentures, residual roots. Conclusions: The conversation and treatment of teeth/remaining roots as overdenture pillars still is a valid alternative, less traumatic and less expensive than the implants application. Although being an underused prosthetic option, the overdentures rehabilitation is a current solution, mainly as an alternative to prosthesis totally mucus supported. The dentist should know and evaluate the retention system features in a way to select and apply the better one to each case so that the rehabilitation treatment prognosis will be more favorable and improve the prosthetic apparatus longevity.
