Abstract(s)
Purposes: Understanding the influence of electrical stimulation and quadriceps strengthening in individuals with osteoarthritis Knee (OAJ). Methods: Search in databases Pubmed, PEDro, EBSCO and Science Direct in order to identify studies that evaluated the influence of electrical stimulation and quadriceps strengthening in individuals with OAJ evaluated methodologically through the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme scale (CASP). Results: Were selected 7 articles (6 randomized and 1 cohort), with a mean score of 7.5 and 12, respectively. In this review, for the analysis of the influence of electrical stimulation, participated 176 individuals with an average age of 62.62 years and to analyze the influence of quadriceps strengthening exercises attended by 338 individuals with an average age of 61.32 years. After the articles analyzed, the results showed that for the pain symptoms and functional activity, the results were positive. However, in relation to gain strength, the results were not significant. Conclusion: Electrical stimulation and quadriceps strengthening help in reducing pain and improving functional activity of individuals with OAJ. To gain strength, it is necessary to carry out studies with a longer treatment program and a larger sample because these two techniques did not achieve significant results.
