| dc.description.abstract | João Rodrigues, conhecido por Amato Lusitano, foi um médico português do século XVI que se viu forçado a sair de Portugal por causa da Inquisição e da perseguição ao judeus que acontecia na altura. Nasceu em Castelo Branco, estudou na Universidade de Salamanca, regressou por curto tempo a Portugal e fugiu depois para a Antuérpia. Passou um longo tempo da sua vida em Itália, onde lecionou e foi médico de nomes ilustres da época, incluindo líderes políticos e religioso. Partiu depois para onde é a atual Croácia e veio a falecer na Grécia, vítima de peste enquanto assistia os seus pacientes. A Amato Lusitano se devem a descoberta das válvulas da veias e a sua obra maior, as suas sete Centúrias. Amato era um homem do Renascimento e deixou um legado vasto em todos os aspetos. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | João Rodrigues, known as Amato Lusitano, was a Portuguese doctor in the 16th century who found himself forced to leave Portugal due to the Inquisition and the persecution of the Jewish people that happened at the time. He was born in Castelo Branco, had his education at the Salamanca University and returned to Portugal for a short time, leaving then for Antwerp. He spent a long time in Italy, where he taught his trade and was the doctor of many illustrious people, including both political and religious leaders. Afterwards he left to where is now Croatia and came to pass in Greece, victim to the plague while helping his patients. We owe to Amato Lusitano the discovery of the venous valves as well as his major work, the seven Centuriae. Amato was a man of the Renaissance and left a vast legacy on all accounts. | pt_PT |
