Aim: Investigate the Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) effect in COPD patients by means of Threshold. Methods: A computerized research through PubMed, PEDro and Science Direct databases was conducted to identify the randomized controlled trials (RCT) that evaluate the IMT efficiency on the patients’s COPD symptoms. Results: In this review were included 7 RCTs involving 280 patients. They were classified in 7/10, based on Physiotherapy Evidence Database Scale (PEDro): 2 articles compared IMT with EMT, of which 1 combined the groups with other physiotherapeutic techniques; 2 articles used high intensity IMT, and 1 used intermediate, of which all 3 compared to low intensity IMT; 1 article compared IMT with aerobic exercise and the last one compared the Threshold with Resistive Load Device on inspiratory muscle training. Conclusion: The studies included in this review suggest that IMT can be a tool with a positive influence in CPOD patients’s quality of life and should be integrated in rehabilitation programs with other physiotherapeutic techniques.
