Abstract(s)
The use of CAD/CAM in the field of Dentistry is highly established in single and partial fixed rehabilitations, offering a high precision in this sense. Nevertheless, the use of the intraoral scanner and stereo-photogrammetry technology is increasingly used in the performance of fingerprints in total implant rehabilitations. The 3Shape® TRIOS system is an intraoral scanner used in dentistry to obtain surface fingerprints such as soft and hard oral tissues. On the other hand, the Dental® PIC allows the capture of the position of the implants as an extraoral scanner, by means of stereo-photogrammetric technology. My motivation for writing this dissertation has as its main objective to carry out a literature review about the advantages and disadvantages of the use of the PIC Dental® and 3Shape® TRIOS image capture systems, comparing their indications and results. In addition, a practical protocol for the combined use of both systems for the capture of implants in cases of total rehabilitation will be developed and recommended. The databases used were PubMed, ScienceDirect and LILACS, following the PRISMA standards. As inclusion criteria, only articles in English and that had been published within a time interval of 12 years, i.e., 2011 to 2023 inclusive, were used. Articles with the following typologies were selected: randomized research, systematic review, case study, case reports, and book chapters. Regarding the exclusion criteria, articles that were not within the stipulated time interval, in addition to being repeated in more than one database and not being related to the theme of this review, were excluded. It is concluded that the integration of the two systems can overcome the limitations of the Dental®️ PIC system. Although the mentioned system is superior to the 3Shape®️ TRIOS in terms of accuracy, it should be used in combination with the 3Shape®️ TRIOS for the placement of the scan markers on the surface mesh, in order to achieve a higher quality in the captures and, consequently, a greater precision in the making of the prostheses in a digital environment such as CAD CAM.
