Abstract(s)
Trabalho apresentado à Universidade Fernando Pessoa como parte dos requisitos para obtenção do grau de Mestre em Mediação e Interculturalidade. In a society in permanent construction and mutation of its different social structures and its different cultures and lifestyles, it becomes necessary to adjust the responses that promote and contribute for social peace. The constructive conflict resolution, by means of dialogue, ative participation of citizens in the construction of their own justice, in the purest way of its citizenship exercise, lead to a more balanced, just and ative society and empowers the common citizen of responsibility and gives him the tools of dialogue that allow to achieve greater satisfaction in the established relationships.
Parting from these assumptions, this study lays over the recognition of the advantages of mediation towards the traditional juridical system.
Therefore, it starts with a theoretical revision over conflict and mediation and, after, we present the quantitative study made through the application of an enquiry by questionnaire, originally constructed for that purpose, designated by MED and applied to 230 individuals, workers from the Town Halls of Caminha and Viana do Castelo. The treatment of the collected data was made through the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS), ver. 19 software.
The results allowed us to conclude, mainly, that there’s still a long way until citizens become aware of the mediation reality and its power as an instrument of social change, it’s clear there’s a great need of better divulgation of this solution and of training of the institutional agents that can be one of the principal activators of mediation processes.
