Abstract(s)
This article focuses on the novel Av. 10 de Julio Huamachuco (2007) by the Chilean author Nona Fernández (1971) who offers a post-dictatorial Santiago and reflects the need to give testimony about a silenced reality insightful take. Chile is often presented as the economic miracle in the neoliberal discourse of the international media. What is missing, however, in this one-dimensional view of reality is the human aspect (feelings, ideals, utopias) that cannot be measured necessarily in terms of figures. The traces of the corrosive violence produced by the military dictatorship appear and reappear in the contemporary society represented by Fernández. The narrative strategy of Av. 10 de julio Huamachuco consists in undermining the dominant discourses of official history and establishing a dialogue with a traumatic past.
