Abstract(s)
Rotator cuff tendinopathy is a major cause of chronic shoulder pain and does not always respond to conservative treatment. Objective: Understand the effectiveness of extracorporeal shock wave therapy in the treatment of rotator cuff tendinopathy. Methods: Computerized research in the databases Pubmed, Web of Science, PEDro, Academic Search Complete and CINAHL Plus was made with the combination “shockwave therapy” AND “rotator cuff”, in order to identify randomized controlled studies that evaluated the effectiveness of extracorporeal shock wave therapy in the treatment of rotator cuff tendinopathy. Results: Seven studies were included in the literature review, with a total of 572 participants, in which some assessed the effectiveness of focused and radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy in the treatment of rotator cuff tendinopathy and others compared different dosages of shock waves, taking most obtained favourable results. Conclusion: Focused and radial shockwave therapy appears to be effective in the treatment of rotator cuff tendinopathy, with high-energy therapy showing better results in most studies and the chronic phase was the most analysed.
