Abstract(s)
In theoretical terms, flow and autotelic personality are based on the research of Csikszentmihalyi (1997, 1999, 2002). The author defined an autotelic individual as someone who does some activity for the pleasure of doing it and not for external benefit. The interest in autotelic personality and flow has been increasing over time. This master's thesis refers to a study that aims to understand the relationship between autotelic personality and levels of anxiety, stress and depression. 455 individuals whose ages are between 17 and 67 years participated in this investigation. Data were collected through a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Autotelic Personality Questionnaire (APQ) and the Anxiety, Depression and Stress Scale (ADSS). This is the Portuguese adapted version of the scale designed to assess anxiety, depression and stress. In short, the results reveal that the more autotelic an individual is, the lower the levels of anxiety, depression and stress. With this in mind, it is possible to conclude that the autotelic personality can be a protective factor for mental health.
