Abstract(s)
Objectivo: Avaliar a aplicabilidade clínica da terapia fotodinâmica no tratamento não cirúrgico da periodontite crónica.
Materiais e métodos: Foi feita uma pesquisa bibliográfica recorrendo à base de dados PubMed/MEDLINE. Apenas foram incluídas revisões sistemáticas e meta-análises, publicadas nos últimos 10 anos, em língua portuguesa, inglesa ou italiana. A estratégia de pesquisa resultou num total de 9 artigos.
Resultados: A terapia fotodinâmica como coadjuvante ao tratamento periodontal não cirúrgico apresentou resultados positivos, como a redução da PS e o ganho de NIC, mas apenas a curto prazo. A evidência para apoiar a sua eficácia clínica a médio-longo prazo ou como terapia isolada é insuficiente.
Conclusões: Mais estudos são necessários para gerar informação adicional sobre a terapia fotodinâmica, confirmar e clarificar os resultados encontrados e avaliar a sua aplicabilidade no âmbito do tratamento periodontal.

Only systematic reviews and meta-analyses, published in the last 10 years in Portuguese, English or Italian were included. The search strategy resulted in a total of 9 articles. Results: Photodynamic therapy as an adjunct to non-surgical periodontal treatment showed positive results, such as PS reduction and NIC gain, but only in the short term. Therefore, the evidence to support its clinical efficiency in the medium/long term or as main therapy is not strong enough to prove it successful. Conclusions: Further studies are needed to gather additional information on the photodynamic therapy, to confirm and clarify the results found and to evaluate its applicability in periodontal treatment.
