Abstract(s)
população residente, trabalhadora e estudante do Centro Histórico do Porto.
This dissertation explores the relationship between security/insecurity and the victimization of the resident, working and student population of the Historic Center of Porto. Since this relationship is a subject that has not yet been explored in Portugal, this research becomes relevant, mainly because it focuses on an urbanized area and clearly with a high population flow, becoming more vulnerable. As such, the following main objectives were established: the analysis of the perception of the population about the (in) security of the area in question, as well as the identification of victimization situations in the last five years, whether direct or indirect, plus its characterization. In order to be conceivable the realization of this investigation, a study design of exploratory, descriptive, cross-sectional, and still observational character based on selfreport was chosen. The questionnaire was administered to 195 individuals of both genders, aged between 18 and 87 years. That said, the results showed that 26,2% of the population surveyed said they did not consider the area in question safe and that theft and robbery appear as the crimes they most observe and fear in this particular place. It was also verified that 43 of the participants were victims of a crime in the last five years, and about 71 elements of the sample know someone who has been: however, it is evident the displeasure of the victims regarding the actions of the authorities. It’s intended, therefore, to emphasize the importance that the administration of Local Security Diagnostics can possess for the extension of knowledge of crime and perception of security/insecurity of a certain community, in such a way will be more perceptible the measures that the instances should be submitted so that, in the future, could be possible to decrease crime and increase the sense of security by the population that moves daily in the area.
