Abstract(s)
The topic of sexuality and adolescence conglomerates a wide heterogeneity of aspects, such as the psychosocial development and biological transformations that occur in this phase, besides expanding family, school and sexual health issues. Working in elementary and middle school is a constant challenge, as students in this stage of adolescence exhibit inter and intrapersonal conflicts and the teacher needs to be willing to adequately supply these impasses. Considering that sexuality is a topic that causes curiosity and generates inquiries at this stage of life, it is necessary to have adequate theoretical support to work on this subject. In this sense, the general objective of this project was to investigate how sexual education has been developed in the school environment, broadening the understanding about the need to promote adequate training to improve the academic knowledge of elementary and middle school teachers. For this, an essentially qualitative methodology was used; data were collected through an open questionnaire, to which 12 teachers answered. 74 students participated in a lecture organized in a circle of conversation with the purpose of verifying doubts and needs on the question of sexuality. It is concluded that the students feel lack in the adequate and more continuous development in the classroom, presenting numerous doubts on the subject. The results of the questionnaires applied to teachers indicate that they consider themselves to be knowledgeable about the subject, but most of the interviewees feel the need for training courses to better understand the subject. Therefore, there is a need for the implementation and development of training courses, along with an increase in teachers' sensitivity and interest in learning and discussing the subject.
