Vivências da maternidade de mulheres vítimas de violência conjugal

O fenómeno da violência conjugal tem vindo a revelar-se como um flagelo cada vez mais marcante e crescente na sociedade Portuguesa, contudo, é ainda bastante desconsiderada a influência que estas vivências exercem sob a relação que estas vítimas estabelecem com os seus filhos, bem como as práticas educativas que adotam. Após uma revisão teórica sobre o tema, apresentamos um estudo qualitativo que teve como principal objetivo, compreender de que forma a violência conjugal entre parceiros íntimos, pode afetar o exercício da parentalidade materna. Para tal foi constituída uma amostra de 15 mulheres mães e vítimas de violência conjugal, com vista a compreender o modo como estas percecionam os seus estilos parentais educativos. Para tal, recorreu-se à entrevista individual semiestruturada, tendo a mesma sido gravada e os dados transcritos posteriormente para análise de conteúdo. Os dados foram organizados em cinco categorias relativas às vivências maternais e de violência conjugal de cada participante: perceções acerca dos conceitos de maternidade, violência, motivos que justificaram a continuidade na relação abusiva, abandono da relação conjugal abusiva e maternidade em contexto de violência. Os resultados mostraram que a vivência destas mães em contexto de relação abusiva, comporta efeitos na sua relação com os seus filhos, e que, não obstante às suas experiências negativas, relativas aos abusos das quais foram alvo pelos seus agressores, estas mães tentam a preservar as suas capacidades, motivações e competências, no que diz respeito aos seus papéis no contexto da maternidade. O estudo permitiu-nos refletir sobre a temática e o desenvolvimento de intervenções mais eficazes junto de mães vítimas e os seus filhos, e ações preventivas que devem ser alargadas à comunidade.
Over the years, the conjugal violence phenomenon has increased and become more visible in the Portuguese society. However, it is known that the literature has disregarded the influence of these experiences on the relationship that these victims establish with their children, as well as the educational practices they adopt. After a theoretical review on the subject, we present a qualitative study whose main goal was to understand how the conjugal violence between partners can affect maternal parenting. With that being said, subjects for this sample included 15 women, among which, mothers and victims of marital violence, in order to acknowledge how they perceive their educational parenting skills. For that, a semi-structured individual interview was conducted, which was, at first, recorded and then transcribed for data analysis. Data for this research was organized into five categories for each participant related to maternal experiences and conjugal violence: perceptions on the concepts of motherhood, violence, reasons for staying in an abusive relationship, abandonment of the abusive conjugal relationship and maternity in a context of violence. The results showed that mothers in a context of abusive relationship has effects on the relationship with their children, alongside with the fact that, in spite of going through negative experiences, these mothers try to maintain their abilities, motivations and skills, regarding their roles in context of motherhood, in other words, parenting. Our study allowed us to think on this matter and on the development of earlier programs on these children and these mothers who are victims and provide preventive interventions that should be extended to the community.
