A identidade e diferenciação de um povo traduz-se na forma peculiar com que cada comunidade vive e a transmite geracionalmente.
O Centro Histórico do Porto foi incluído pela UNESCO, em 1996, na lista indicativa do Património Mundial, facto que por si só é demonstrativo da peculiaridade de um pedaço de uma cidade diferenciadora da restante urbe, à qual pertence, e é digna de nota a nível mundial pela traça originária e secular distinta do resto do país e do mundo.
A importância desta identidade é tão intrínseca à população portuense que, apesar do grande fluxo turístico, tem sido até agora capaz de a manter.
As entidades públicas têm permitido a recuperação urbanística sem a ferir.
Este estudo apresenta a evolução do turismo e da recuperação urbanística e o seu controlo pelas entidades públicas de modo que a urbe não seja minimamente beliscada, facto que, entre outros aspetos, é visível pela quase ausência de infrações urbanísticas apesar da constante e ampla recuperação do edificado, mas os crescentes fluxos turísticos começam a colocar em causa a história viva que só pode ser mantida com uma população residente.
The identity and differentiation of a people are translated into the peculiar way in which each community lives and transmits it generationally. The Porto Historic Center was recognized by UNESCO, in 1996, in the indicative list of World Heritage, which in itself demonstrates the peculiarity of a piece of a city that differentiates it from the rest of the town, to which it belongs and is noteworthy at the world by the original and secular characteristic distinct from the rest of the country and the world. The importance of this identity is so intrinsic to the population of Porto that, despite the great tourist flow, has been able to maintain it until now. The public entities have allowed the urban recovery without hurting. This study presents the evolution of tourism and urban regeneration and its control by public entities so that the city is not minimally nipped, a fact that, among other aspects, is visible due to the almost absence of urbanistic infractions despite the constant and wide recovery of the city. but rising tourism flows are beginning to call into question the living history that can only be maintained with a resident population.
