A comunicação eficaz é essencial para o desenvolvimento social e académico das crianças e o temperamento pode desempenhar um papel significativo nesse processo. O presente estudo tem como objetivo investigar a relação entre caraterísticas do temperamento e as competências comunicativas em crianças de idade pré-escolar. A metodologia utilizada teve em consideração uma amostra de crianças em idade pré-escolar que frequentam estabelecimentos de ensino privados ou públicos. Foram utilizados os seguintes instrumentos de recolha de dados: o questionário sociodemográfico, a Escala de Comunicação para Idade Pré-Escolar (ECIPE) – versão para educadores; a Bateria de Avaliação do Temperamento Infantil – versão experimental para pais (TABC-r). Foram utilizados procedimentos de análise estatística descritiva e inferencial. Os dados recolhidos e analisados foram consistentes com a literatura existente, no que respeita a regulação emocional e o desenvolvimento de competências sociais e comunicativas. Verificou-se que o temperamento, especialmente a emocionalidade negativa, se correlaciona significativamente com o as competências comunicativas em crianças em idade pré-escolar. Estes resultados são importantes para repensar práticas pedagógicas e estratégias de intervenção terapêutica.

The methodology used took into account a sample of pre-school children attending private or public schools. The following data collection instruments were used: the sociodemographic questionnaire, the Communication Scale for Preschool Age (ECIPE) - version for educators; the Child Temperament Assessment Battery - experimental version for parents (TABC-r). Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis procedures were used. The data collected and analysed was consistent with existing literature regarding emotional regulation and the development of social and communicative skills. It was found that temperament, especially negative emotionality, correlates significantly with communication skills in pre-school children. These results are important for rethinking pedagogical practices and therapeutic intervention strategies.
