Abstract(s)
Architecture evolves at a rapid pace and with the development of architecture comes the ventilated façade system, developed in order to be a better system compared to the traditional brick or concrete façade. Not only in technical aspects such as better isolation, faster execution, and greater durability, not requiring as much maintenance, but also in aesthetic aspects, with a wide variety of possible coverings and the possibility of being used in irregular places. With the appearance of this new system, in several parts of the world we have been witnessing more and more the use of ventilated facades. Unlike Portugal, which still offers a little resistance to this new system, being limited to the use of the traditional façade. Even so, it is already possible to observe in some cities the use of the ventilated façade both in industry and in single and multi-family residences. With this dissertation entitled "Ventilated Facades instead of Traditional Facades", we intend to understand this type of choice by architects, questioning them about the advantages and disadvantages of ventilated facades, why the use of ventilated facades as an alternative to traditional facades and, finally, analyze the reason why the ventilated facade system is not so widely used in projects in Portugal. In order to develop in more detail the subject of the dissertation, in a first phase we continued to the analysis and theoretical research of studies and scientific articles already set by other authors, performing a literature review where it is possible to find all the necessary data for a better understanding of the subject in question. Subsequently, we proceeded with the preparation of questionnaires to architects to select those who could fit the study in question, so that in a second phase they could perform interviews. Finally, the results and conclusions are presented, answering the main research question - Ventilated facades instead of traditional facades - and the secondary questions.
