A má oclusão de Classe III esquelética é uma condição que altera a harmonia facial e que pode afectar o desenvolvimento psicológico e social do seu portador, sendo por isso relevante o seu diagnóstico precoce e tomar uma decisão sobre a abordagem de forma correcta e em tempo oportuno, tendo em mente as possíveis implicações e limitações deste tipo de tratamento. Esta monografia descreve a Classe III esquelética e, para tal, estuda a sua etiologia, desenvolvimento e diagnóstico diferencial. Quanto ao seu tratamento precoce, é necessário o conhecimento dos componentes da má oclusão, como se manifestam e de que maneira podem ser corrigidos ou atenuados e se deve avançar para o tratamento activo ou optar por outra abordagem. A decisão sobre o método a utilizar baseia-se no estudo de todos estes factores e na análise dos dispositivos que podem ser empregues neste tipo de tratamento.
Skeletal Class III malocclusion is a condition that alters the facial harmony and may affect it’s bearer’s psychological and social development, which means it is crucial it’s early diagnosis and to decide about the approach in the right way and in the right time, while being aware of the implications and limitations of this kind of treatment. This monography describes skeletal Class III and, to do so, studies it’s etiology, development and differential diagnosis. As for the early treatment, it is necessary to know the components of this malocclusion, how they manifest themselves and the way they can be treated or toned down and if one should proceed to active treatment or opt for another approach. The decision about the method to apply is based on the study of all these factors and the analysis of the appliances that can be used for this treatment.
