Abstract: The purpose of the present study was to analyze the relation between the furniture dimensions and the anthropometric dimensions of the children in school age. It participated in this study children between the age of 5 and 12 years old (n=946), were evaluated the anthropometric measures (shoulder height, elbow rest height, knee height, popliteal height, popliteal-buttock length and hip breadth) and the measures of the furniture that they use (desk height, desk depth, desk width, chair height, seat height, seat depth, seat width, backrest height and backrest width). Equations of the Gouvali and Boudolos, (2006) were used to acceptable furniture dimensions according to the anthropometry. Seat height was only suitable for 12,37% of the participants, being that 84,14% presented chairs with height above the recommended, while the seat depth was suitable for 30,44%, seat width was suitable for 24,21%, the backrest height was only suitable for 28,75%, being that 39,32% had backrest heights above the recommended and the desk height was only suitable for 15,33%, being that 78,01% had desk heights below the recommended. We conclude that the school furniture dimensions adopted by the evaluated schools do not present a suitable relation with the anthropometric dimensions of the children in school age.
