No mundo ocidentalizado o conceito de beleza está muito associado à magreza. seguindo as tendência do mercado, a indústria do vestuário e da moda não tem respondido de forma pronta e adequada às exigências das consumidoras com excesso de peso. Neste estudo procuramos analisar a relação e o envolvimento das mulheres obesas com o vestuário e com a moda. Recorrendo a metodologias cruzadas, entrevistas e questionários, procuramos dar resposta a este grande objectivo. Os resultados evidenciam os problemas das mulheres obesas em encontrar vestuário de moda adequado ao seu perfil. Apesar de tudo, as mulheres sentem-se envolvidas com o vestuário e com a moda, tal como a maioria das mulheres.Encontramos diferenças significativas relativamente aos graus de obesidade, aos grupos etários e às habilitações. In the western world the beauty concept is very associated to thinness. Following the market trends, the fashion industries have not been answering a readily and appropriately to the consumers’ demands with overweight. In this study we tried to analyze the relationship and the involvement of obese women with clothing and fashion. Through crossed methodologies, interviews and questionnaires, we tried to give an answer to this great scope. The results show that obese women have problems in finding appropriate fashion clothing to their profile; they are involved with the clothing and with the fashion, just as most of the other women. Significant differences about the level of obesity, age groups and qualifications have been found.
