Abstract(s)
As estratégias referenciadas incluem a supervisão, saúde física, apoio psicoterapêutico, suporte social e saúde psicológica.
Self-care is understood as a multidimensional concept involving the self-selection of strategies used to maintain a balance between personal and professional life, promoting psychological, physical and professional well-being. Despite the relevance of understanding the factors underlying the practice of self-care in healthcare, there is a notable lack of scientific evidence addressing the impact on trainees in healthcare (such as nursing, medicine and psychology). In order to ensure a sustainable healthcare system, it is crucial to prioritize the health and well-being of healthcare professionals as an ethical imperative of professional activity. Within this context, the present study, using a qualitative approach, seeks to integrate the adoption of a holistic perspective of the importance of self-care and its integration into the curricula of health students. Twelve semi-structured interviews were conducted and analyzed using Braun and Clarke´s (2006) thematic analysis framework, where significant differences were perceived in each participant's perception of self-care and their area of academic training. The findings reveal the importance that the trainees attach to self-care, which is recognized as imperative for taking caring of ourselves and balancing mental, physical and social health. Participants identified several self-care strategies, including supervision, physical health, psychotherapeutic support, social support and psychological health. Nonetheless, significant barriers to the implementation of these strategies were reported, such as time management, lack of institutional support and excessive workload, recognizing self-care as indispensable for professional practice and health promotion. The trainees also identified the inclusion of self-care in the curriculum as fundamental, highlighting recommendations for practice through interactive resources and strategies throughout academic training, setting limits, raising awareness of the importance of self-care and learning to deal with emotions. The results highlight the need to address self-care throughout the training period, implying an informal approach allowing students and future health professionals to incorporate and adopt self-care practices.
