Abstract(s)
Domestic violence is characterized by a pattern of abusive behavior within an intimate relationship. In these type of relationships, one party exerts power and control over the other, and this abuse can be physical, emotional, psychological, sexual and economic. To explain this phenomenon theories have been established that specify domestic violence through the exposure of social, psychological and cultural factors and causes that contribute to its occurrence, whether in a family or intimate setting. The present crime, in Portugal, stands out as a crime that occurs quite frequently, and despite legal and institutional advancements it remains a serious issue affecting women, men LGBTQI+ individuals, people with disabilities, migrants, children and youth and the elderly. The need for crime prevention becomes essential and it is considered of great importance to deepen research that allows for an analysis of the risk factors present in victims of this type of crime in order to create more effective prevention plans.
