Abstract(s)
Objetivo: Determinar, através da evidência científica mais recente, o impacto da diabetes mellitus no microbioma oral.
Métodos: Foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica nas bases de dados PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science, B-on e Scielo, com uso do método PICO e critérios de inclusão e exclusão. Foram identificados inicialmente 1254 artigos, dos quais 8 estudos foram selecionados para análise.
Resultados: A literatura analisada indica uma possível correlação positiva entre a diabetes mellitus e complicações orais. Os pacientes diabéticos apresentaram maior prevalência de condições como doença periodontal (DP) e xerostomia em comparação com pacientes não diabéticos.
Conclusão: Os estudos incluídos sugerem que, sob diferentes perspetivas, os pacientes diabéticos são mais suscetíveis a complicações orais ao longo da vida. Estas complicações estão associadas a múltiplos fatores, incluindo alterações no microbioma oral, hiperglicemia e disfunções imunológicas.

Methods: A bibliographic search was conducted in databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science, B-on, and Scielo using the PICO method and specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. Out of 1254 articles, 8 studies were ultimately selected for analysis. Results: The literature reviewed suggests a positive correlation between diabetes mellitus and oral complications. Diabetic patients were found to be more likely to experience oral issues such as periodontal disease (PD) and xerostomia compared to non-diabetic individuals. Conclusion: The reviewed studies indicate that diabetic patients are more prone to lifelong oral complications, influenced by various factors such as changes in the oral microbiome, hyperglycemia, and immune dysfunction.
