Abstract(s)
This graduation project analyzes the presence of women in sports journalism in Portugal. Based on the research question does sports journalism remain a male-dominated field, or is there now genuine openness to female participation? The aim is to understand whether there is real change in the sector or if gender inequality still persists. The project explores the origins and evolution of sports journalism, gender issues in the media, and how women are represented and received in this field. A public survey was conducted to assess perception on the topic, and a case study on Porto Canal was included, based on professional testimonies and internship experience, highlighting it as a positive example of inclusion and equality. The findings reveal that, although visible progress has been made, inequalities remain, particularly in the assignment of technical or analytical roles. Female presence is increasingly recognized, but it is still not fully normalized or equally distributed across all contexts. It is concluded that sports journalism in Portugal is undergoing a process of transformation, but has not yet achieved full gender equality. This project aims to contribute to reflection and to the appreciation of the role of women in this field.
