Abstract(s)
This project focus on sexual crimes and their motivational processes. Sexual crimes are a serious problem in the Portuguese society and we aim to contribute to better understand sexual offenders, to identify which are the main committed sexual crimes, and their underlying motivations. Consequently, an empirical study was planned, using a questionnaire aimed at a sample of 120 inmates of Prisons Santa Cruz do Bispo, Vale do Sousa and Lamego. An intervention program directed to sexual offenders’ inmates and the local populations of ten northern regions of Portugal was also structured. The type of information this two-fold project may offer is very relevant to criminal investigations, as it may help to further the understanding of the sexual crimes’ motivations, as well as to improve intervention, namely prevention, in this context.
