Abstract(s)
Stress is considered a recurring problem in our society, especially in a professional context, such as in criminal investigation agencies. It is known that stress can significantly influence an individual’s quality of life, especially when he or she resorts to misfit strategies to be able to cope. This dissertation aims to understand which sources cause the most stress to criminal investigation professionals, through the EFSCP questionnaire. Through the ‘Brief COPE’ questionnaire we aim to understand which kind of coping strategies are used to deal with stress inducing situations. A statistical analysis was also applied to verify if there are differences in the answers between the PJ inspectors and the GNR criminal investigation police. In this research 90 criminal investigators were questioned, 68 being professionals belonging to the criminal investigation of the GNR and the remaining 22 are inspectors of the PJ. Most of the participants are male (87.80%) and are included in the age group of 37-46 years of age (64.4%). The studying of the data: It was verified that the source identified as the most stressful was "Internal Management" (90.10%) followed by "Recognition" (75.50%). "Ambiguity and uncertainty" were pointed out as the source that causes less stress (62.30%). Regarding coping strategies, 84 of the professionals of criminal police agencies pointed to the "coping asset" as the most accepted strategy; followed by the "Plan", in which 80 of the participants admitted to using this strategy. The strategy that was found to have been used the least was "Use of substances" (1.10%). With this data we can understand the reality of the stress involved in these professionals and seek to work increasingly for their quality of life.
