A harmonização orofacial é uma especialidade da odontologia que tem crescido cada vez mais no Brasil. Consiste em diversas modalidades de procedimentos estéticos em que o objetivo é alcançar o equilíbrio ideal entre a harmonia da face e pescoço. Contudo, a decisão pelo Conselho Federal de Odontologia em regular a prática deu-se a partir da intensa procura dos tratamentos realizados no mundo inteiro e a preocupação de como balizar as ações desses profissionais. O debate em geral justificou-se, devido ao fato de que no Brasil, apenas até julho de 2024, existiam 3231 especialistas com o registo oficial, o que implica que todos eles estejam formados a partir de uma entidade específica e prezam por um profissionalismo ético rigoroso. A tese em questão tem por principal objetivo descrever os resultados das questões da seção “Ética e Deontologia” do questionário: “Ética, Deontologia, Formação e Prática Profissional em Harmonização Orofacial: a perceção dos cirurgiões dentistas e estudantes do último ano de odontologia brasileiros”. Os métodos de análise aqui empregados foram, na sua maioria, estatísticos, como o Exato de Fisher. Em suma, a harmonização orofacial é uma área de expansão odontológica, e é fundamental que seja minuciosamente regulamentada e que os profissionais sejam qualificados para desempenhar essas atividades cuidadosamente.
Orofacial harmonization is a specialty of Brazilian dentistry that has grown increasingly. It consists of several types of aesthetic procedures in which the objective is to achieve the ideal balance between the harmony of the face and neck. However, the decision by the Federal Council of Dentistry to regulate the practice was due to the intense demand for treatments carried out around the world and the concern about how to guide the actions of these professionals. The debate in general was justified due to the fact that in Brazil, only until July 2024, there were 3231 specialists with official registration, which implies that they all graduated from a specific entity and value rigorous ethical professionalism. The main objective of the thesis in question is to describe the results of the questions in the “Ethics and Deontology” section of the questionnaire: “Ethics, Deontology, Training and Professional Practice in Orofacial Harmonization: the perception of Brazilian dental surgeons and final year dentistry students”. The analysis methods used here were, for the most part, statistical, such as Fisher's Exact. In short, orofacial harmonization is an area of dental expansion, and it is essential that it is meticulously regulated and that professionals are qualified to carry out these activities carefully.
