Abstract(s)

Este estudo procura investigar, através de critérios de noticiabilidade reconhecidos, a influência exercida pelo Mercúrio Português, jornal do século XVII, junto dos seus públicos. Pretende-se fundamentalmente comprovar que os artigos jornalísticos escritos ao longo de cinco anos não têm por desiderato único informar os leitores. Analisando algumas passagens deste periódico, é objetivo fulcral desta pesquisa atestar o caráter propagandístico do jornal e os efeitos praticados naqueles que o liam. The following study seeks to investigate, by means of well-acknowledged newsworthy criteria, the influence exerted by Mercúrio Português, a 17th-century newspaper. Fundamentally, it is our aim to prove that the articles published in this newspaper during a time span of five years did not have the sole purpose of keeping its readers informed. One of the main goals of this article is to confirm the propagandistic nature of the newspaper and its importance among those who read it, with the analysis of a number of passages from some of its articles.
