Abstract(s)
Introduction: Spastic diplegic cerebral palsy (SDCP) in children and adolescents is a lifelong deficit that affects motor control and activities of daily living (DLAs). Objective: to analyze the efficiency of muscle strengthening in increasing strength and gait improvement in children and adolescents with Spastic Diplegic (SD). Methods: A computerized search was conducted in the Pubmed database, PEDro, CINAHL Plus with Full Text, SPORTDiscus and Academic Search Complete to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that examined the effect of muscle strengthening on increasing strength and gait improvement in children and adolescents with SDCP. Results: 7 RCTs were included, with methodological quality between 5/10 and 7/10. Conclusion: It was concluded that the muscular strengthening through Sit-to-Stand (STS) exercises at different speeds, treadmill and suspension, antigravitational treadmill and strengthening programs (weight and resistance), induce significant gait improvement in children and adolescents with SDCP.
