Abstract(s)
This study is a brief reflection on the mismatch between the existing educational system and the demands of a rapidly changing world where there is a constant pressing need for social and personal re-adaptation. From this analysis, it became evident that it is important to implement a new educational paradigm based on the knowledge brought by the advances in neurosciences, pedagogy and alternative models of success. Hence, a proposal for an alternative project to be implemented in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM) designed based on three structuring lines: creativity, cooperation and sustainability. It was defined as the general purpose of this study to verify the acceptability of a project that will promote creative, cooperative and sustainable learning. To attain the proposed goals, as well as the specific goals defined, two instruments were selected: the closed questionnaire, applied to a representative sample of the targeted educational community (112 teachers, 27 students, 15 school management body representatives, 12 parents, 15 school non lecturing staff members and 6 educational leaders) and two semi-structured interviews: with the Education Councillor of the Municipality of Funchal (CMF) and with the Regional Secretary of Education (SRE) of the RAM. From the data collected, it was concluded that the acceptability of the project is supported by the majority of the Educational Community. The response "Yes, a lot" was 70% in what regards the importance of creative learning; in relation to cooperative learning as a working methodology, the percentage was equal to or greater than 60%; on the importance of including daily problems in the curriculum, the groups exceeded 65%; in relation to the proposed project, on the creative approach and the importance attached to cooperative work, there was a percentage equal to or greater than 60%; on recognition of the promotion of sustainability, 50%; and 80% show interest in participating. The interviews confirm the ideal conditions, the advantage and the feasibility of an alternative educational project based on the three proposed lines. Thus, once the question that forms the basis of this study has been answered positively, a proposal is put forward.
