Abstract(s)
Objective: To evaluate the bond strength of universal adhesives applied by a direct restorative technique to dental substrates. Methodology: Literature search performed in electronic databases PubMed, ScienceDirect and ResearchGate. The search was subjected to inclusion and exclusion criteria and studies were selected following PRISMA criteria. Methodological quality of the articles was assessed according to the modified scale of Onofre et al. (2014). Results: Of the 196 articles identified, 13 studies were selected. The bond strength of universal adhesives in enamel shows better results with the Etch-and-Rinse approach, while in dentin the application strategy does not significantly affect the bond strength. Conclusion: Evidence from in vitro studies suggests that selective enamel etching prior to universal adhesive application is advisable to optimize bond strength in this tissue. Application by the Self-Etch strategy is the method of choice for dentin.
