Prevalência das disfunções temporomandibulares em estudantes da Universidade Fernando Pessoa e relação com limitações funcionais

| dc.description.abstract | Introdução: As limitações funcionais são frequentemente reportadas em pacientes com disfunções temporomandibulares utilizando a Escala de Limitação Funcional Maxilar. Os jovens adultos, mais especificamente os estudantes universitários pelo estilo de vida, alterações psico-emocionais e faixa etária, constituem uma população suscetível ao aparecimento de disfunções temporomandibulares. Objetivo: Estudo epidemiológico transversal com vista à avaliação da associação entre disfunções temporomandibulares e limitações funcionais maxilares numa amostra de estudantes universitários do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Dentária da Universidade Fernando Pessoa. Metodologia: 106 estudantes foram avaliados para disfunções temporomandibulares usando o Eixo I dos Critérios de Diagnóstico para Disfunções Temporomandibulares e classificados segundo a presença e ausência de DTMs. A Escala de Limitação Funcional Maxilar-8 foi aplicada para o estudo das limitações funcionais. Para todas as análises estatísticas, o nível de significância foi de 0,05 e utilizou-se o IBM® SPSS Statistics, versão 25.0. Resultados: 48,1% dos estudantes (n=51) foram diagnosticados com algum tipo de disfunção temporomandibular e 29,2% estudantes (n=31) apresentaram alguma limitação funcional. Nos estudantes com disfunção temporomandibular, a soma da Escala de Limitação Funcional foi significativamente mais elevada que nos estudantes sem disfunção (Teste U de MannWhitney, p=0.002). Conclusões: Dentro das limitações deste estudo, verificou-se uma relação entre a presença de qualquer tipo de disfunção temporomandibular e limitações funcionais, no entanto, estudos futuros são necessários. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Functional limitations are often reported in patients with temporomandibular disorders using the Maxillary Functional Limitation Scale. Young adults, more specifically university students, due to their lifestyle, psycho-emotional changes and age group, constitute a population susceptible to the appearance of temporomandibular disorders. Objective: Cross-sectional epidemiological study with a view to assessing the association between temporomandibular disorders and maxillary functional limitations in a university students of dentristry’s sample from the Integrated Master in Dental Medicine at Universitdade Fernando Pessoa. Methodology: 106 students were evaluated for temporomandibular disorders using Axis I of the Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders and classified according to the presence and absence of TMDs. The Jaw Functional Limitation Scale-8 was applied to study functional limitations. For all statistical analyzes, the level of significance was 0.05 and IBM® SPSS Statistics, version 25.0, was used. Results: 48.11% of the students (n=51) were diagnosed with some type of temporomandibular disorder and 29.2% students (n=31) had some functional limitation. In students with temporomandibular disorders, the sum of the Functional Limitation Scale was significantly higher than the students without (Mann-Whitney U test, p = 0.002). Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, there was a existence of a relationship between the presence of any type of temporomandibular disorder and functional limitations, however, further studies are needed. | pt_PT |
