Abstract(s)
The present work was carried out within the scope of the Integrating to Professional Life course, inserted in the 2nd Semester of the 4th Year, and is a requirement for the conclusion of the Nursing Degree at the Fernando Pessoa University. The subject of study is: "Knowledge of the Population on Cerebrovascular Diseases (The Case of CVA)." Stroke (stroke) is a brain injury that occurs due to an interruption of the blood supply to this organ, being the main cause of death and permanent disability in Portugal. Cardiovascular diseases are the most important cause of death in Europe (WHO, 2014). Every half hour, a person suffering from stroke is admitted to a Portuguese hospital, the disease that kills the most in Portugal (DGS, 2013). In 2012, 50% of patients hospitalized for stroke had access to specialized units, which translated into advantages not only in reducing cerebrovascular mortality but also in limiting the often-devastating mental and motor sequelae (DGS, 2013). This transversal study was carried out in the city of Porto between June and October 2017.
