| dc.description.abstract | Introdução: A vacuoterapia tem-se mostrado eficaz na redução de dor e aumento da amplitude de movimento, no entanto não se conhece o seu efeito imediato nos sintomas de uma Disfunção Temporo-Mandibular (DTM). Objetivo: Verificar se os efeitos imediatos da vacuoterapia dinâmica aliada à massagem pode ser benéfica, comparativamente à massagem isolada, em indivíduos com sinais e sintomas de DTM, a nível do índice de Helkimo, amplitude de abertura da boca e dor à palpação do masséter, analisando também por género. Metodologia: Este estudo é do carácter randomizado controlado, com 32 elementos igualmente de ambos os sexos, com uma média de idades de 21,5 anos, divididos aleatoriamente em dois grupos: grupo de controlo (n=16) que realizou como tratamento massagem no masséter bilateralmente de 30 minutos e grupo experimental (n=16) em que foi realizada a mesma massagem com a adição da vacuoterapia dinâmica. Esta foi realizada na região do músculo masséter bilateralmente. Antes e após o tratamento foi avaliado o índice de Helkimo, a amplitude de abertura da boca e dor no masséter. Resultados: Após a intervenção observou-se que não existiram diferenças significativas entre os grupos, no entanto quando dividimos a amostra por géneros verificamos que foi no grupo experimental do género feminino onde houve melhorias significativas em todos os parâmetros analisados. Conclusão: A vacuoterapia dinâmica aliada à massagem não aparenta acrescentar um benefício significativo nas variáveis analisadas quando comparada com a massagem, mas teve um impacto mais significativo no género feminino. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Cupping therapy has been shown to be effective in reducing pain and increasing range of motion, but its immediate effect on signs and symptoms of a Temporomandibular Dysfunction (TMD) is not known. Objective: Analyze whether the immediate effects of dynamic cupping therapy combined with massage can be beneficial, compared with massage alone, in individuals with TMD signs and symptoms, in terms of the Helkimo index, range of motion of mouth opening and pain by palpation of the masseter, analyzing also by gender. Methodology: This study is randomized controlled, with 32 elements equally of both sexes, with an average age of 21.5 years, assigned randomly into two groups: a control group (n=16) that performed as a treatment a 30-minute bilateral masseter massage and an experimental group (n=16) in which the same massage was performed with the addition of dynamic cupping therapy. This was performed in the region of the masseter muscle bilaterally. Before and after the treatment the Helkimo index, the range of motion of mouth opening and the pain in the masseter were evaluated. Results: After the intervention it was observed that there were no significant differences between the groups, however when we divided the sample by gender, we found that it was in the experimental group of the female gender where there were significant improvements in all the parameters analyzed. Conclusion: Dynamic cupping therapy combined with massage does not appear to add a significant benefit to these variables when compared with massage, but it had more significant impact on the female gender. | pt_PT |
