Abstract(s)
Aim: find out what the immediate effect after performing the mobilization with movement, based on Mulligan's concept, on temporomandibular disorders, more specifically on pain and mouth opening. Methodology: the study sample consisted of 20 physiotherapy students from the Health Superior School of Fernando Pessoa, with an average age of 23.65 years, and in both groups, 80% female and 20% male. All the participants were evaluated before and after, using Helkimo Index, Visual Numerical Scale of pain during mouth opening and assessment of its range of motion. Were randomly assigned into 2 groups: control (CG), without any type of intervention, and experimental (EG) that was submitted to mobilization with movement according to Mulligan. Results: after the intervention, it was found that in both groups (CG and EG), was an increase in the mouth opening range of motion (p=0,007 e p=0,005, respectively), however the EG had better results when compared to the CG (p<0,001). About the pain, there was only a reduction in the EG, with differences between the groups, after the intervention (p=0,001). Conclusion: mobilization with movement according to Mulligan appears to have an immediate effect in decreasing pain and increasing mouth opening range of motion.
