Abstract(s)
The overall aim of this investigation was to identify the prevalence of police force victimization through the experience and perception gained by the National Republican Guard officers in carrying out their duties. The mixed methods research combines and integrates qualitative and quantitative research methods in a single research study, and the study has followed an exploratory descriptive, transversal and retrospective design, in an analysis based on observation and self-report. The method was a survey using the questionnaire technique, delivered to a sample made up of 92 officers from the National Republican Guard of the Porto Territorial Command, 71 males and 21 females, aged between 25 and 54 years old with an average of 40.23 years old and a standard deviation of 6.18. The findings showed the existence of a victimization prevalence, experienced and perceived by GNR officers and pointing to some of the most commonly characteristics reported by those interviewed. The theoretical framework of this investigation was carried out through a systematic literature review, followed by the empirical study to finally discuss the results and submit the conclusions and the research implications.
