Abstract(s)
Objective: To analyze the results of different Clinical Trials concerning the efficacy of the Cawthorne and Cooksey exercise protocol in improving balance in elderly individuals. Methodology: A computerized search was conducted in the following databases: DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals); EBSCO; LILACS;PEDro; PubMed/Medline; SCIelo; ScienceDirect; ISI Web of Knowledge; with the intent of finding Randomized controlled trials. English and Portuguese written articles were selected. The analysis was made by critical revision of contents. Results: 5 randomized clinical trials were included, totaling 201 participants overall. Conclusion: The Cawthorne and Cooksey exercise protocol allows new patterns of vestibular stimulation, allowing this intervention to promote improvements in balance, as well as improvements in self-confidence and fall prevention.
