Abstract(s)
This study, called "Intimate Partner Violence Stories: meanings, implications and prospects for the future," wanted to know the dynamics existing in relations of domestic violence, the victim's perspective, as well as its effects and personal expectations. Through a qualitative methodology and the use of semi-structured interview, applied to the semi-directive form, sought, from intimate partner violence stories experienced by eight women, users of the Portuguese Association for Victim Support Porto, explore their representations around domestic violence in society and the dynamics associated with their personal stories of victimization. We wanted to further characterize the consequences of their experiences and perspectives of the future. In terms of results, there is the fact that the participants have notion of the acts that classify domestic violence, and to revise as victims of these acts. The cycle of domestic violence is evident in much of the testimony, and the majority of participants still lives with the aggressor, despite seeking institutional support. Less than half of the women interviewed formalized complaint either by discrediting justice, either by mercy the offender, yet either because the offender is the father of the children of the couple. Finally, it is important to emphasize that the psychological support that participants have is seen as an aid in improving your self-esteem and will to operationalize a change in their lives. All participants were found to have future goals, whether professional or personal, in order to exit / end the violent relationship.
