Abstract(s)
The following paper investigated the oral manifestations of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and spondylarthritis in a 23-year-old female patient diagnosed with both conditions. Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is characterized as a group of systemic inherited diseases caused by structural changes in collagen, essential to the ligaments and muscles of the temporomandibular joint, periosteum, periodontal ligament, dentin and pulp organ. Spondylarthritis affects the joints, especially the spinal and sacroiliac joints, and is described as a chronic inflammatory disease, additionally, studies have demonstrated its association with periodontal disease and temporomandibular joint disorders, due to ligament inflammation or recurrent postural alterations because of spondylarthritis progression. In the oral evaluation of the patient, manifestations associated with the pathologies were found, as well as others not typically described. Different treatment plans were addressed, the patient is in a predisposing position for the development of oral pathology, either because of the pathologies or because of the pharmaceuticals used to alleviate their symptoms.
